Jonathan & Elizabeth Marshall Collection

Visitors can experience nineteenth century décor and charm thanks to the generosity of Jonathan and Elizabeth Marshall. Long-time Bourbon resident Elizabeth Marshall wanted to preserve her husband Jonathan’s memory so she bequeathed 160 acres of land to the MCHS that had been acquired by her husband’s grandfather, Calvin Shakes, 90 years before, along with the contents of her historic home. When Mrs. Marshall died in August 2011, the land was auctioned, bringing in $1,000,000. The proceeds from the sale were invested with the Marshall County Community Foundation, and interest from the fund will be used for special projects at the Museum far into the future.

Much of the Marshall furniture, china, household objects, and vintage apparel is on display in the Parlor, lending nineteenth century charm to the museum.
