Transportation Room
The recently opened
Transportation Center features displays that show how the improvement of
transportation influenced the development of Marshall County. Growth of
a community has always hinged on the ability to move goods and people.
The museum's Transportation Center features many aspects of the history
of the county in relation to transportation. From the earliest days of
the native flora and fauna to the products made in the industries, from
the agricultural fairs to the blueberry festival, from horses to buses
the development of Marshall County is shown in the pictures and
artifacts displayed in the Transportation Center. The centerpiece is an
interactive display visually lighting the 5 major roads through Marshall
County. The first road was the Michigan Road laid out in 1826. With the
advent of automobiles came the Yellowstone Trail, the Lincoln Highway,
the Dixie Highway and the Grand Army of the Republic.
Hear locally recorded stories about traveling, learn about Bremen and
the mint industry, see the Gunter chains that were used by early
surveyors to lay out the Sections of Marshall County, and view exhibits
of industries related to recreation and travel. There's a little
something for everyone.
